CHASE
CHASE is projecting comprehensive
and holistic digitalization to the chemical process industry using interdisciplinary domain knowledge, thus transforming the chemical process industry more flexible, competitive and thus sustainable.
CHASE focuses on a comprehensive approach starting from varying
feedstocks to products with defined, optimized quality (Comprehensive). By exploring digital model-based solutions (Holistic) and flexible production (Agile) in a systematic approach (Systematic) it produces (Enabling) added value for the industrial needs of the future.
CHASE pursues systemic and
interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry, process engineering and analytics for industrial production technologies.
It leverages the potential of digitalization for enabling a more efficient, flexible and sustainable chemical process industry.
RESEARCH
The scientific work of the Competence Center CHASE GmbH is organized in Multi-Firm Projects that are grouped into three different Areas which are also linked to each other. These Areas are: Process Digitalization (Area 1), Process Intensification (Area 2) as well as Circular Process Streams (Area 3). In the Multi-Firm Projects of each Area the participating companies are working together with the scientific partners to advance on applied topics of relevance to several industrial partners. These topics are supported by a Strategic Project from each Area, where the scientific partners concentrate work on more fundamental aspects of CHASE related research topics. As CHASE develops in the upcoming years it is planned to advance these topics also into Multi-Firm Projects.

Overall scientific lead: Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. Christian Paulik
AREA 1
Process Digitalization
is the opportunity front of Europe, a once-in-a-generation chance to boost its position in the hyper-connected global marketplace. Data, software, robots, connected things and machines will power the new European digital economy in production systems. These are the main topics in chemical and physical processing systems where the projects of Area 1 are focusing on.
AREA 2
Process Intensification
will be considered by combining laser based developments in Process Analytical Technologies with open source Computational Fluid Dynamic simulations for optimization of chemical production processes in various fields.
AREA 3
Circular Process Streams
deals with the central question how data knowledge management could innovate circular process streams and the demonstration of the performance potential of next generation processes by means of real pilot living labs.
